Fullydropped Alchemist

We’ve decided that FMA is shit and we’re no longer subbing it. We do commend Lance and the Funimation crew for attempting to keep up with the fansubbing scene by streaming free, subbed episodes shortly after the air date. Unfortunately, fansubbers will still continue to fansub since the age of the Internet has made us all demand instant gratification, as evidenced by the fact that there are a bajillion groups working on the show and releasing shortly after Japanese airing.

Look at Crunchyroll and their 0-hour subs. No one touches whatever they’re subbing no matter how atrocious their timing/styling/encoding is because there is no point competing. Sure you can download the rip over torrents, but if you’re offering it free in the first place there really is no point other than to have a hard copy of it.

Really, Funimation shouldn’t bother with C&Ds and just start airing FMA2 at the same time as the Japanese airing. It’d kill off all the fansubbers instantly.

Except me. I don’t want to die.

    I see. Well I don’t blame you.

The new FMA is really weird. Even though it takes after the manga, its already messed with the story far too much. Its esseintally the same, but it leaves alot out. It feels…. rushed. Like everything moves to fast. I recall the whole bar scene in the beginning of the last episode and the church scene where Ed rambles off the ingredients for a human body much much longer and fleshed out. But in this, each scene is only 2-3 minutes long.

Its awkward considering FMA will continue to remain one of my all time favorite animes and thing like that stick out ALOT to me. If its going to be remade, imo, it should be done right and completely. Not cut into pieces. I would’ve much prefered them just releasing the entire original series over again in 720p.

He he – the only problem is now, I don’t know of any animes to watch now. XD

So far I only have Bleach which has only just recently kicked up into some slightly good stuff which is rare as hell, and this which I’m not particularly liking. I hate Naruto. Gundam 00 is over until the movie.

Guess its time to start rewatching some classics. :p

LOLWUT. Check TT for half a dozen crunchyroll-subs-on-half-decent-raws releases.

Well that sucks. You were the only ones I trusted with these subs. Guess I’ll have to look elsewhere.
Thanks for all your hard work.

I Agree with Region Free, but I understand your decision. Out of curiosity wil you guys be picking anything else up this season?

BUT WE LOVE YOU EEJ, WHY? WHY…?

CR-subs on top of decent raw releases are different from actual subbing, really. The fact that if you want to watch it right away, you have to go to CR is good enough. It’s like pirating TV shows. Sure, you can download them a few hours after airing but it’s a lot less effort to actually just watch it straight from the source.

By the way, how many big name groups actually do CR-subs-on-raw releases?

  8. you should sub Sengoku Basara, few subbers and damn slow

    I blame Eej for everything.

There aren’t any near-decent groups doing CR releases. Just the horrible pirates bunch who’re just being a little too happy with their copy/paste and… well.. no one notable.

Interesting they were quicker with the C&Ds this time. I actually recommended the FUNimation streaming site to some of my friends for the most part to avoid problems like this fansub groups would find themselves in. However, I heard bad things about the load capacity of the site and would usually have to watch a few days later.
Hulu had some shitsen subs and other gay-font subs uploaded and that made me want to throw up.

But its fine! I’ll just have my dictionary handy when watching the raws again!
    ..lol @ Basara subs.

CR subs tend to be better than the best fansub groups though. Check out any of this season’s shows… Especially Ristorante Paradiso… They blew frostii’s translation out of the water and Frostii is normally one of the best.

LOLpiracy. CR’s subs are fine, but their video is really, REALLY awful. About the nicest thing I can say about is is that it compares favourably to VHS (although, that’s only for the ‘high quality’ version). Assuming that it’s not region-locked, that is.
IIRC, half the CR rereleases are due to encoderRAGE by the oft-ridiculed digital video flagellants of some of the more prominent fansubbers, and the other half are horrible fansubs that nobody downloads.

Drats…was hoping this was a troll post, looks like its not… Eclipse it is! It was great while it lasted.

I do agree with you on the HQ part. Most of that stuff was bad (not VHS quality–I assume you’ve never ripped VHS into a digital format, lol) but there is a reason why their h264 (still not up to par but w/e) and HD releases exist. They have a business and a service to maintain and the prices they offer aren’t bad at all, so I wouldn’t justify ripping their stuff in the name of encoderRAGE.

So… we should pay money for crappy video because otherwise crunchyroll would go out of business? I think you’ll find that’s an argument FOR torrenting, not against.

    @anon
I’ll admit the quality they’re pushing out isn’t what it could be (Hulu would be a great example of what it should be), but it’s not something too far off from what they’re charging either. I haven’t checked if they updated their HD catalog, but the HD streams are satisfactory for something being STREAMED to a large audience, and the h264’s OK but not the best. They’ve already got enough of an audience (aka people who don’t whine as much as you) to stay in business. The growth’s in question now.
I’m just saying for what they’re charging, it’s not that bad of a deal.
